Adel is a sorceress from Esthar who initiated the Sorceress War. As the ruler of Esthar, she ordered her soldiers to abduct every girl to find a suitable successor, including Ellone. During the Esthar revolution, Laguna and Dr. Odine placed her in suspended animation in outer space. After Edea is released from Ultimecia's control, Ultimecia commands Rinoa to free Adel so she can become Ultimecia's new vessel. The party defeats Adel when she tries to absorb Rinoa at the Lunatic Pandora.
