Fran travels around Ivalice as Balthier's "associate", maintaining the ship and assisting him on his adventures. Her age is unknown, but she is a Viera, a race renowned for their extraordinarily long life.

She first joins your party, along with Balthier, briefly in the Garamsythe Waterway, and then permanently after events in the Sandsea, Rabanastre's famous Tavern.

Fran's attributes are all fairly average, none are particularly weak, but none are particularly strong either, so its important to concentrate her license points on augments at the start of the game to make up for these deficiencies. Due to her relatively low MP levels (compared to the other females) it is also important to acquire her Quickenings early. Indeed, Fran should be the first character to do so, as she starts the game within a fairly easy reach of at least two Quickening licenses. Towards the end of her progression, her MP becomes much more satisfactory, and eventually will rise above Vaan's levels, but still will not approach the other two women.
